You opted to rent a hospital grade breast pump to initiate and/or maintain your milk supply. Great choice! However, once home and ready to pump, you discover it won't turn on. Don't worry—there's a simple solution. At Baby Experts, we often receive this question. Below are the straightforward instructions to get your Medela Symphony up and running.

Step 1: Look to the Back of the Pump

In order for the pump to fit in the case, you'll need to disconnect the power cord from the unit. You will see two power cord ends: one short and one long. Ensure that both ends are easily accessible.

Step 2: Locate the Trap Door

The next step is to find the power inlet cover that we refer to as the "trap door." It's located on the back of the pump. Gently slide it upwards to reveal the inlet.

Step 3: Plug It In

Now that you've located the trap door, plug the short cord end into it. After that, take the long cord end and plug it into your power outlet. Make sure the connection is secure.

Step 4: Get Pumping!

Once the short cord is plugged in and the long cord is connected to the outlet, your Medela Symphony unit should now be powered on. You're ready to begin pumping! If you experience any problems, don't hesitate to call or text us immediately.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Sometimes, despite proper connections, the pumping machine may still face issues. Here are some common problems and their solutions:

Power Issues

Not Turning On

If your pump does not turn on after everything is plugged in, double-check the power outlet. Try connecting another device to see if the outlet is working. If it still doesn’t function, inspect the cords for any damage.

Listening for Sounds

Lack of Sound

When you turn on your pump, you should hear a gentle whirring noise. If it’s silent, revisit the cord connections. Sometimes, they can work loose over time.

Difficulties with Suction

Low or Unstable Suction

If you find that the suction power is low or fluctuating, inspect the breast shield and ensure it’s the correct size for you. A perfect fit can greatly enhance suction.

The Importance of Consistent Milk Supply Maintenance

Maintaining a consistent milk supply is vital for nursing mothers. Regular pumping can help ensure that you’re meeting your baby’s nutritional needs. However, if issues arise, always reach out for professional support.
